Brand Storytelling for Business Growth

Find the real story underneath your business and use it to shorten the sales cycle.

Branding strategist Jodi Lawaich works the gap between describing what you do and communicating why it matters. The first is information; the second is what raises perceived value and shortens the time it takes a buyer to decide.

The opening distinction is copywriting versus brand strategy. Copywriting is execution: the words on a page, optimized for a response. Brand strategy is the decision about what the business stands for, who it's for, and what it refuses to be. Writing without that decision produces copy that tests well in isolation and never accumulates into anything.

Uncovering the emotional core is the central exercise. It usually isn't the founding anecdote people default to; it's the reason the work is done a particular way: a frustration with how the industry operates, a standard someone refuses to lower, a specific person the business was built to serve. That reason is what a story can be built on, because it's durable, and it's true.

Transparency is treated as an advantage rather than a risk. Naming what you don't do, who you're not right for, and where the limits are increases trust faster than broad claims, because it gives the buyer something checkable. Vagueness reads as caution, and caution reads as risk.

On emotional versus rational benefits: feature lists give a buyer material for comparison but rarely create preference. Emotional benefits like confidence, relief from a specific ongoing frustration, and credibility in front of their own customers are what people act on, then justify with the features afterward. The session covers how to state both without the emotional layer collapsing into sentiment.

Consistency across platforms is the last piece and the one most brands lose first. The story holds only if the website, the sales conversation, the social presence and the delivery experience all say the same thing. Every place they diverge, the buyer has to decide which version is real, and that decision costs more than the inconsistency saved.

What does this session decide for my business?
The session defines your core brand strategy rather than just copywriting tactics. It establishes what your business stands for, who it serves, and what services or clients it refuses to take on. Making these foundational decisions ensures your marketing copy accumulates into a durable brand identity instead of testing well in isolation.
How do I start building a clear brand story?
Start by uncovering the emotional core of your work, such as an industry frustration or a strict quality standard you refuse to lower. Frame your narrative around 5 core elements: customer protagonist, conflict, transformation, proof, and values. A simple operational template to test messaging is: "When [customer] faces [problem], [brand] helps them [outcome] because we believe [brand values]."[1]
What does attending this masterclass cost?
The training masterclass is completely free to attend. You invest only the time needed to participate in the live session and complete the exercises. If you want done-for-you templates or implementation guides, Sell More Resources offers optional paid work products following the masterclass.
What is the most common brand storytelling mistake?
The most common mistake is platform inconsistency, where the website, sales pitch, and delivery experience convey conflicting messages. Every point of divergence forces buyers to determine which version is genuine, slowing down decision-making. Relying solely on features instead of emotional benefits also hurts performance, whereas strong trust can drive up to 8x more visits and sales.[2]
How can I tell if my brand story is working?
You can tell your brand story is working when your sales cycle shortens and buyer trust increases. Research shows that 88% of buyers globally view brand trust as equally important as price and quality. Track concrete metrics like brand search lift, call-to-action click rates, and story-influenced sales pipeline to evaluate performance.[2]
