How to Sell More: Strategic Marketing

January 06, 20264 min read

Look at your marketing.

No, really. Look at it.

A Facebook ad here. A blog post there. A random tweet. A newsletter you send out whenever you feel like it.

It’s a mess. It’s a drunken octopus on roller skates. All arms, no direction. A flurry of activity with zero strategy. You’re busy. But you’re not effective.

You’re chasing vanity metrics. Likes. Followers. Page views. You get a little dopamine hit every time someone clicks “like,” but your bank account is gathering dust. You’re doing “marketing.” But you’re not creating customers.

The Content Treadmill to Nowhere

I once worked with a founder of a direct-to-consumer skincare brand. Great products. Beautiful packaging. But she was stuck on the content treadmill.

She was posting on Instagram three times a day. She was writing two blog posts a week. She was running Facebook ads to a free guide that no one was reading. She was doing everything the gurus told her to do. And she was exhausted. And broke.

“I don’t get it,” she told me. “I’m doing all the things. Why isn’t it working?”

“Because you’re doing tactics, not strategy,” I said. “You’re a cook, not a chef. You’re following a recipe, but you don’t understand how the ingredients work together.”

She was focused on the 4Ps of marketing, a framework that’s been outdated since the internet was a dial-up tone. Product, Price, Place, Promotion. It’s a model for a world that doesn’t exist anymore. A world where you could just shout at people through a TV screen and they would buy your stuff.

That world is dead. And so is that model.

Stop Shouting. Start Mattering.

In today’s world, you can’t just push your message out. You have to pull people in. You can’t just talk about your product. You have to create an experience. You can’t just compete on price. You have to create an exchange of value.

At Sell More Academy, we have a new framework for this new world. We call it the 4Es.

  • Experience: Stop selling products. Start selling experiences. From the moment someone first hears about you to the moment they become a raving fan, every single touchpoint is part of the experience. Your website. Your packaging. Your customer service. All of it.

  • Exchange: Stop thinking about price. Start thinking about the exchange of value. What are you asking for? Their time? Their attention? Their money? And what are you giving them in return? A solution? A feeling? A transformation?

  • Everyplace: Stop thinking about place. Start thinking about being everywhere your customers are. Not every social media platform. But the ones that matter to your people. Your website. Their inbox. Their favorite podcast. Be there. And be valuable.

  • Evangelism: Stop thinking about promotion. Start creating evangelists. Create a brand that people are proud to wear on their chest. Create a community that people are desperate to join. Create a movement.

How Jane Got Off the Treadmill

So what happened? We threw out the 4Ps playbook. We started over with the 4Es.

  • Experience: We stopped just selling skincare. We started selling a self-care ritual. We created a beautiful unboxing experience. We wrote a handwritten note with every order. We created a private community where customers could share their routines and support each other.

  • Exchange: We stopped running ads to a free guide. Instead, we created a free “Skincare Quiz” that gave people a personalized routine based on their skin type. It was valuable. It was fun. And it collected email addresses like crazy.

  • Everyplace: We stopped posting on every platform. We went all-in on Instagram, where her customers were actually hanging out. We started doing live Q&As with dermatologists. We partnered with influencers who actually used and loved the products.

  • Evangelism: We stopped just asking for sales. We started a referral program that rewarded customers for spreading the word. We featured our customers’ stories on our website. We made them the heroes.

The result? Her business tripled in a year. She got off the content treadmill. She stopped being a busy fool and started being a strategic founder. She stopped doing marketing. And she started creating customers.

You Don’t Need More Tactics. You Need a Strategy.

This isn’t about working harder. It’s about thinking smarter. It’s about having a framework for making decisions. A system for creating customers.

This is what we do at Sell More Academy. We don’t give you more tactics to add to your drunken octopus. We give you the strategy to make it all work together. We give you the ‘4Es Marketing Canvas,’ the exact tool we used to transform her business.

If you’re tired of being busy but not effective, if you’re ready to build a real marketing machine, then it’s time to join Sell More Academy.

Stop the random acts of marketing. Join us and build a strategy that works.
